Meet The Crew
Founder, President & CEO
After beginning his career managing theme park and museum projects in Florida, Matt founded 5 Wits in 2003 by opening our first walk-through adventure attraction. Matt leads the company from a creative design perspective on a wide variety of interactive museum, theater, and theme park projects. Matt holds a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. After a long day at 5 Wits, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids and teaching product design to senior mechanical engineering students at MIT.
Director of Operations
Jon leads 5 Wits Productions with oversight and organization of the daily operations of the in-house team and our vendor/contractor network. Jon has the unique ability to understand a project’s big picture needs in addition to the required focus-on-detail to create engaging spaces and experiences. Jon has an M.A. in Museum Studies from the University of Kansas and almost 20 years of experience in exhibition design & fabrication. Outside the office, he enjoys restoring and racing sailboats and spending time with his family.
Spike has been with 5 Wits since the beginning. A former math teacher and graduate of UMASS Amherst, Spike’s clear understanding of the fundamental principles and technologies involved in any exhibit makes him a valuable asset when designing and producing interactive elements. Spike leads the electrical implementation and wiring of our complex electro-mechanical projects. When not in the office, Spike enjoys spending time with family and watching sports.
While attending Hope College, his additional pursuits in the theater department led him to begin a career in scenic construction & design. After serving 6 seasons as the Master Carpenter for Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company, Jon founded & operated two exhibit fabrication firms. Throughout his past thirty-plus years in the East Coast exhibit industry, Jon has enjoyed collaborating on the creation of custom works, project problem solving and installing many hundreds of pieces for museum, theater, and corporate clients locally & far beyond. In his spare time, Jon enjoys reading history, working in his garden, and restoring his circa 1870’s mansard home.
Rob loves to design and build solutions to tough technical problems. He joined 5 Wits in 2015 from industrial automation where he worked on electro-mechanical systems. He has experience in machine design, robotics, pneumatics, motion, and machine vision. He has a Bachelors of Engineering from Dartmouth College, as well as skills in carpentry, fabrication, and on-site installation. Rob also enjoys woodworking, hiking, canoeing, and skiing.
Kat has creativity to spare – from concept and graphic design to audio and lighting design to illustration and script writing. Also on her list of skills are artistic direction, scenic painting and props, special effects, and electronics. A graduate of Boston University with a BFA in Theatre Design, she has worked in the museum and tourism industry for eight years and has a passion for unique, creative, and unconventional experiences. In her spare time, she builds animatronics and takes trapeze classes.
A regular ‘Jack of All Trades,’ Brian can be found everywhere on site (including on a roof, as shown above!) wiring, fabricating, and focusing on getting the job done. Brian has a BBA from Washburn University and enjoys working on his home and taking on ambitious projects.
Alex enjoys tackling tricky technical and creative design problems. Holding bachelors degrees in both mechanical engineering and theatrical design from Colorado State University, he can be found doing just about everything from graphic design to prototyping. When Alex isn’t looking for new and creative ways to combine art and science, he enjoys hiking, skiing, movies, and working on projects in his garage (and playing with puppies of course).
Dane has been with 5 Wits since 2008 and is uniquely qualified in the design of both mechanical and electrical systems. Dane drives the wiring and programming of many of our interactives. He has a BSME from Northeastern University and has experience in machining, carpentry, and design. Dane is also responsible for developing 5 Wits’ custom circuitry and PCBs. On days off, he enjoys playing board games, hiking, and reading a good book.
